History of Library Services to African Americans in Florida 

This project explores the history of library services for African Americans in Florida. The presentation offers insight into how socio-political contexts such as de jure segregation and integration impacted access to knowledge resources. Participants will learn about research methods and ethical considerations in historical reconstruction of minority experiences.

Kayla Davis is an MLIS student in her last semester at the University of South Florida. During her time in the program, Kayla served two terms as the president of the student chapters of the American Library Association and the Special Libraries Association at USF, in addition to being a graduate assistant. Kayla is an ALA Spectrum Scholar and also received the USF School of Information’s Outstanding Student Award this past fall. Kayla is a proud member of the ALA, SLA, BCALA, and FLA. Kayla hopes to work in academic libraries or cultural heritage centers after completing her MLIS degree.
