Making history a new reality: How library partnerships using 3D, digital collections, and virtual platforms can elevate learning

Libraries are embracing VR to enhance their missions of educating the public and providing access to technology. Using the preservation of a historic home and a partnership between a public and academic library, a 3D Immersive experience was created. Learn about the logistics and challenges of creating this program for library users.

Phyllis Gorshe
Dunedin Public Library
Phyllis Gorshe is the Library Director for the Dunedin Public Library. Phyllis has worked in libraries for over 25 years. She has public, law and academic library experience. She is a Past President of the Florida Library Association and 4-time mentor for the Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute.

Anne-Maire Nurnberger
Dunedin Public Library
Anne-Maire is a Senior Librarian at Dunedin Public Library. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology from The Queen’s University of Belfast, Ireland and worked for many years in the field of archeology and museum collections before transitioning to Libraries. She recently graduated from the University of South Florida in 2021 with a Masters in Library and Information Science.

 

Dr. Lori Collins
Center for Digital Heritage and Geospatial Information - University of South Florida Libraries
Dr. Lori Collins is a Research Associate Professor and co-Director of the Digital Heritage & Humanities Center (DHHC) in the University of South Florida Libraries, School of Geosciences. Her interests center on land management, preservation, and conservation practices, as well as interpretive development relating to heritage tourism. Much of her research has focused on Mesoamerican iconographic and rock art documentation and preservation, and LiDAR, GIS, and terrestrial laser scanning applications for archaeological visualization.

Denise Wright 
Center for Digital Heritage and Geospatial Information
Denise is a GIS Analyst with expertise in LiDAR and remote sensing. She has worked on numerous mapping projects for transportation and environmental services, as well as multiple countywide aerial orthophotography projects in the state of Florida. Her interests lie in new technologies for geospatial and remotely-sensed data.
