Collaboration, Technology, Integration, and Choice

Collaborative efforts between FALSC, EBSCO, and Innovative Interfaces has led to transparent efforts to build, implement, and support a state of the art library management system. After the FALSC contract was jointly awarded to Innovative Interfaces and EBSCO, a unique and coordinated effort began to implement the Sierra library management system and EBSCO Discovery Service . The goal was to create an open system with multiple participating vendors in a way that provides the most choice around implementation and the best possible experience for users. This practice, often referred to as delivering "best of breed", allows partners to offer a larger suite of services and more choice to meet different library expectations and experiences. The collaboration between EBSCO and Innovative Interfaces, with FALSC's guidance, has been the catalyst for mutual roadmap synchronicity and increased speed of development. Moreover, weekly vendor meetings and customer collaboration are driving desired outcomes of improved workflows and an optimal end-user experience. The suite of EBSCO and Innovative APIs allows for choice of the discovery interface, improved harvesting workflows and true knowledge base integration. The end result is a library management system that can manage over 40 academic libraries with flexibility to accommodate multiple and different library styles and choices.
