Session Description 

Success Coaching contributes to college retention by helping college students adapt to academic challenges and complete their degrees. Librarians serving as Success Coaches provide increased value and ROI for their institutions. Coaches help individual students cope with and thrive in college. Tips, experiences, and supporting resources will be shared.

Presenters 

Cynthia Childs, Southeastern University
Cynthia Childs has been serving as Reference and Outreach Librarian for Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL since 2018. She holds a BA in English from Saint Paul's College and MLIS from San Jose State University. She has served as a success coach at Southeastern University for two consecutive years. She is passionate about mentoring young adults and promoting literacy.

Kathleen Kempa, Southeastern University
Kathleen Kempa has been a Reference Librarian at Southeastern University for eight years. She has been involved with programs supporting student success for five of those years. She believes that librarians are uniquely positioned to help students succeed.

Debbie Rusch, Southeastern University
Debbie Rusch has been serving as Technical Services Librarian for Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL since 2017. She holds a BA in Humanities from Florida Southern College and MLIS from the University of South Florida. FLA 2020 is her third consecutive attendance at the FLA annual conference and first attendance as a speaker.

Nathan Schwartz, Southeastern University
For more than twenty years Mr. Nathan Schwartz has striven to help students and faculty reach their informational needs. In a multitude of library technology areas, he reaches out to acquire new skills and implement best practices for technology and library information seeking needs. His mission is to overcome the technical obstacles that limit information seeking for faculty, librarians, and students in every area.
